The 2024 Birthplace of Route 66 Festival included two Stearman Formation Pilots flying over the festival on Thursday and Friday.
Pilot Rod Hightower and a fellow Stearman pilot performed their flyovers in two vintage World War II biplanes.
Hightower says for parades they usually do several passes above the route using a race-track pattern. His mission in doing flyovers is to encourage participation in aviation by inspiring people to fly, build, restore, volunteer, and reach out to their community in support of aviation.

- Pay a visit to the Route 66 Car Museum at College Street and Kansas Expressway. Owner Guy Mace has assembled an incredible collection and it’s available throughout the year in your own backyard.
- Check out the public art along Route 66. This includes fun 1950s neon, Springfield Sculpture Walk through downtown and a sculpture on College St
